He Will Tread Down Our Foes
To the choirmaster: according to Shushan Eduth. A Miktam of David; for instruction; when he strove with Aram-naharaim and with Aram-zobah, and when Joab on his return struck down twelve thousand of Edom in the Valley of Salt.
1
O God,
1
you have rejected us,
2
broken our defenses; you have been angry;
3
oh, restore us.
2
You have made the land to quake; you have torn it open;
4
repair its breaches, for it totters.
3
5
You have made your people see hard things;
6
you have given us
7
wine to drink that made us stagger.
4
You have set up
8
a banner for those who fear you, that they may flee to it
9
from the bow.
a
Selah
5
10
That your
11
beloved ones may be delivered, give salvation by your right hand and answer us!
6
God has spoken
12
in his holiness:
b
"With exultation
13
I will divide up
14
Shechem and portion out the Vale of
15
Succoth.
7
16
Gilead is mine; Manasseh is mine;
17
Ephraim is
18
my helmet; Judah is my
19
scepter.
8
20
Moab is my washbasin; upon Edom I
21
cast my shoe; over
22
Philistia I shout in triumph."
c
9
Who will bring me to the fortified city?
23
Who will lead me to Edom?
10
Have you not
24
rejected us, O God? You
25
do not go forth, O God, with our armies.
11
Oh, grant us help against the foe, for
26
vain is the salvation of man!
12
With God we shall
27
do valiantly; it is he who will
28
tread down our foes.
