A Call to Repentance

13 1Put on sackcloth and lament, 2O priests; 3wail, O ministers of the altar. Go in, 4pass the night in sackcloth, 5O ministers of my God! 6Because grain offering and drink offering are withheld from the house of your God.
14 7Consecrate a fast; 8call a solemn assembly. Gather 9the elders and 10all the inhabitants of the land to the house of the LORD your God, and cry out to the LORD.
15 Alas for the day! 11For the day of the LORD is near, and as destruction from the Almightya it comes.
16 Is not the food cut off before our eyes, 12joy and gladness from the house of our God?
17 13The seed shrivels under the clods;b the storehouses are desolate; the granaries are torn down because 14the grain has dried up.
18 How 15the beasts groan! The herds of cattle are perplexed because there is no pasture for them; even the flocks of sheep suffer.c
19 To you, 16O LORD, I call. 17For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, 18and flame has burned all the trees of the field.
20 Even the beasts of the field 19pant for you because the water brooks are dried up, 20and fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness.
