11 Sheol and Abaddon lie open before the LORD; how much more 1the hearts of the children of man!
12 2A scoffer 3does not like to be reproved; he will not go to the wise.
13 4A glad heart makes a cheerful face, but by 5sorrow of heart the spirit is 6crushed.
14 7The heart of him who has understanding seeks knowledge, but the mouths of fools feed on folly.
15 All the days of the afflicted are evil, but 8the cheerful of heart has a continual feast.
16 9Better is a little with the fear of the LORD than great treasure and trouble with it.
17 10Better is a dinner of herbs where love is than 11a fattened ox and hatred with it.
18 12A hot-tempered man 13stirs up strife, but he who is 14slow to anger quiets contention.

24 The path of life leads upward 23for the prudent, that he may turn away from Sheol beneath.
25 The LORD tears down the house of 24the proud but 25maintains 26the widow's boundaries.
26 27The thoughts of the wicked are an abomination to the LORD, but 28gracious words are pure.
27 Whoever is 29greedy for unjust gain 30troubles his own household, but he who hates 31bribes will live.
28 The heart of the righteous 32ponders how to answer, but 33the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
29 The LORD is 34far from the wicked, but he 35hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 36The light of the eyes rejoices the heart, and 37good news refreshesa the bones.
31 38The ear that listens to 39life-giving reproof will dwell among the wise.
32 Whoever 40ignores instruction 41despises himself, but he who listens to reproof 42gains intelligence.
33 43The fear of the LORD is instruction in wisdom, and 44humility comes before honor.
